FAQ
Do I need experience to compete?
You need a comfortable understanding of your shuffle fundmentals to compete, but rest assured this is a beginner-friendly event by design! If you can shufflle even a little, you're welcome to compete. The MC walks everyone through the format live, and the crowd is there to cheer you on, not judge.
What style of dance is this?
Shuffling and cutting shapes, a style rooted in rave and electronic music culture. Think running man, t-step, cutting shape elements in freestyle essence.
How does judging work?
Three judges watch every battle and vote on who advances. They're looking foundations, technique, musicality, creativity, energy, and grooves. Each dancer gets their time on the floor and the majority vote wins.
What do I wear?
Whatever you feel comfortable and confident in! Wear something you can move freely in and feel good about.
Can I just come watch and not compete?
100%! Spectators are a HUGE part of what makes battles so special! Grab a spectator ticket ($25) for a spectator weekend pass ($75) which includes both judge masterclasses. Classes are open-level for anyone to attend and enjoy the experience!
What time should I arrive?
Doors open at 12 PM. Prelims start at 1 PM sharp. Plan to arrive by 12:30p at the latest if you're competing - you'll want time to check in, warm up, and get a feel for the space.
Do I need to buy a masterclass to compete?
No - battle entry and masterclasses are separate. You can compete with just the $25 entry fee (or $45 weekend pass if you want to add both classes at a discount). Classes are open to everyone, competitor or not.
why show up?
Free community sessions.
